be quiet! Pure Base 500DX Casingbe quiet! have finally joined the ARGB trend and it looks quite promising for their first product. In this review, we take a look at their Pure Base 500DX case, which is made in both white and black.
be quiet! has made a nice presentation video, which I just think we should watch. Afterwards, I will go into a little more detail as I usually do with my reviews.
We start by looking at the packaging. The cardboard box itself is a discreet brown cardboard box with illustrations printed on the outside. You get a nice sense of what's in the box.
Inside the box, the casing is wrapped nicely in a plastic bag and flamingo. The casing is well protected against shocks and scratches. Take care of your fingers, it is a rather antistatic combination, so you can get shocks.
Inside the casing, we find a box with accessories, which contains a number of screws, strips, a guide and a small tool for screwing the threaded rods in and out of the base plate using a standard screwdriver. So you only need a PH2 Phillips screwdriver to mount the hardware.
The technical specifications. The case is built as a standard midi tower, which can contain motherboards up to ATX format. Graphics cards can be up to 369mm and there is room for 7 drives in total, where the 2 of them can be 3.5 "drives. There is plenty of room for an acceptable setup. Let's look at the casing. The casing has a glass panel, so you can see all the great hardware you have in your computer The glass is not tinted, so there is no interference with the colours in the casing. There are also lights inside the casing, I will show that later.
The front has clearly received an update over the previous edition. There is a mesh on the entire front, so there can be good airflow in the casing, and then there are two ARGB light stripes, which we will also look at later.
The front can be easily pulled off, so you can get to the magnetic dust filter and mount fans and radiator here in the front.
Note that the light in the front is connected to a connector that connects when mounting the front. There are no wires, you can remove the front completely without any hassle. It's an ingenious solution be quiet! have found here.
At the top of the front, we find from the left a USB-C connector along with a USB 3.0 connector. Then there is a large power button, audio jacks and a button for the light. There is a controller for the light so you can use it without connecting it to the motherboard.
On top of the casing, we find a magnetic dust filter that can be easily removed. It covers the fan slots at the top, where you can also mount a radiator for water cooling.
At the back of the casing, we find the 7 card slots, a fan and brackets for mounting the power supply.
The bracket for the power supply can be removed with thumbscrews, so you can mount the power supply, all the cables and then mount it in the supply while pushing it into place. This makes installation super easy.
Under the casing, we find some good big feet with rubber and a large dust filter.
The filter can be pulled out from the front for cleaning. It's nice not to have to tilt the casing or anything to clean the filter.
When we open the casing we can see that there is visible mounting of the SSD on the right side. Good air in the PSU cover, so the PSU can get rid of the heat, and there is a hole down through the PSU cover on the right side if you want to install large water coolers.
The back of the side panel is covered with noise-reducing material to avoid vibration and noise.
At the back, we also have the option of mounting a couple of SSDs behind the motherboard, so there are good opportunities to have many drives in the casing.
All drives can be mounted outside the casing to be inserted in the casing assembled at the end. All brackets can be removed with thumbscrews, so it is super easy to work with.
The same applies to the 3.5 "drive slots, which can also be pulled out. If you use a large water cooler, this holder must be removed completely, then you do not have the option of 3.5" drives.
Time to install some hardware. The assembly of hardware in this casing is easy as a breeze. It really means a lot that you can take all the parts out of the casing and mount it on the table. You can mount large coolers and water cooling in the casing, which is great. The casing can now be used with a big gaming setup without getting hot.
At the back, there is plenty of space for cables. However, you should note that you should have a power supply where the wires from the SATA power connectors go straight out of the connector as they do on mine. Otherwise, there is a risk of breaking the plugs and possibly damaging your drives.
The light in the casing. On the front we have a couple of light stripes that run ARGB. This means that you can program some pretty cool effects, which can synchronize with the rest of the light in your setup if you have the hardware for it. It can also run completely on its own, and you can switch with the button on the front of the casing. The transition between the LEDs is completely smooth, which looks awesome.
There is also an LED strip at the top inside the cabinet, which lights up the hardware. It gives a nice effect, and then you actually do not need extra light in my opinion. The advantage of the light being able to run on its own is that you can then turn it on white instead of using a flashlight if you have to look in or connect something in the computer.
What is my opinion about the product. be quiet! Pure Base 500 received some criticism for the lack of airflow, which caused some problems with large gaming setups. They have made amends for this by making a completely open front. They have decorated it with some nice details and ARGB LED stripes. It looks cool, and be quiet! had to join the trend at some point. Mounting in the casing is super easy, which makes building a system in this casing playfully easy. You can mount a lot of the parts outside the casing to finally mount them in the casing with thumbscrews. It's awesome. There are good options for installing large cooling solutions. If you choose a large cooler in the front, however, you will miss a couple of drive slots for 3.5 "drives. Then you have to consider whether you want to use the 2.5" slots instead, of which there are 4. That should be enough for both gaming and storage, and 2.5 "drives are not as expensive anymore. All filters can be accessed from the outside without the need for tools. The front can be removed and has a plug system, so you do not have to think about pulling on wires. You just peel off the front when you go in there. Pricing: The price for the casing is just over 700 DKK, which is quite a nice price for such an awesome casing. My final assessment. There is no doubt that this is an awesome casing. You get a casing with cool light, super easy installation of hardware and good options for a large setup.
