Sandberg Wireless Sniper Mouse

It is time for a review of an accessory in the form of a wireless gaming mouse.

Sandberg sent me their Wireless Sniper Mouse, and asked me to look at it, and give it my true opinion. There are, as always, nothing I'd rather do.

Sandberg eSport Equipment

Sandberg Esports Equipment, is a collection of products designed specifically for gaming. These are products with fancy colors and many configuration options, just as we know it from other gaming products. Even RGB is finding its way to Sandberg Esports Equipment.

Let's look at the specifications:

As you can read, the mouse has a rather high battery life. It is of course depending on whether you use light in the mouse and how much you generally use it.

Content

The box is really nice with illustrations and specifications on the outside.

Packaging

You can open the the box and is then greeted by a tough soldier on the lid, as well as the physical mice inside the box. So you can see how the product looks like before you buy it.

A closer look at the mouse:

The mouse is a good looking black mouse with soft touch surface on the top. The sides of the mouse are shiny and smooth black plastic.

All buttons are clearly marked in a green / turquoise color, so you can clearly see what the different buttons are for.

If we look at the buttons on the front of the mouse, we find the buttons left and right mouse button on each side. On the top of the mouse is a button to select the DPI setting, and a system button to minimize / maximize the window you are in. Just to the left of the scroll wheel there is also a system button that makes a double-click if you press it.

On the top of the mouse, there is a small LED that illuminates during charging. This LED also begins to flash when the battery is running out of power. Then you know it's time to charge the mouse.

The scroll wheel is also a button you can press, and is covered in white and black rubber. It provides excellent grip on scroll wheel, so you do not miss a weapon shift, or whatever you use it for.

front buttons

On the side of the mouse, we find the back and forward buttons.

All buttons can be converted into multimedia buttons, but I'll show a little more about in a minute. This is why there are two pictographs on many of the buttons.

Beneath the mouse you will find all the settings, as the mouse does not have a dedicated driver.

The top button has 3 settings, where you can choose from 250Hz / 500Hz and Multimedia. When you choose Multimedia, many of the buttons are turned into multimedia buttons, so you can skip track in the music, play and pause and several other things. It's pretty smart, if you primarily use your mouse on a computer that often plays music.

The second button is the on / off and light. If you choose light, the light turns on in the Sandberg logo on the back of the mouse, and the scroll wheel and the sensor under the mouse. I will show how it looks a little later.

Besides the buttons to adjust the settings on the mouse, you will also find the small wireless receiver. It is possible to use this mouse with either wireless and wired connection.

The included micro USB cable is inserted into a connector just below the scroll button, and is used for charging and wired connection. So if you run out of battery power, you can quickly continue by plugging in the cable.

My Rating:

Gaming and daily use:

Of course I've been playing computer games with the mouse, since it is what it is intended for. The mouse is reacting just as it should, and you can set 4 different DPI settings while playing. However, it is not known what DPI to choose from, Sandberg could have informed the DPI levels instead of just writing up to 2400 DPI.

On a daily basis it is the somewhat the same, here you can use the switch to activate the Media functions, so you can control your music with the mouse. It is quite handy if you like me are sitting and editing documents while the music pumps.

Ergonomics:

This mouse is shaped for a different grip than what I usually use. I usually have three fingers on top of the mouse, and the little finger on the side of the mouse. However, it is my opinion that many use the grip this mouse is designed for, so Sandberg has been right to shape it as they have.

The smooth glossy sides of the mouse makes it is a bit hard for me to hold onto it. Often you lift the mouse just to correct the position a little, which is a little difficult with the smooth surface of the mouse.

Positions of the buttons:

The buttons on the other hand is located really well. I can easily reach all the buttons with my fingers without any problems. All buttons are with micro switches, so you have a clear audible click sound to hear when they activate. It's really great, and gives an impression of good quality.

The size:

I have pretty big hands, and this mouse fits quite fine in my hand. I would not recommend this mouse for fingertip grip, but for palm grip. There are several things about the mouse's design and size that makes it better for one type of grip over others.

The light:

You can not adjust the brightness of the light, but it is actually not necessary. The light is clear yet subdued behind the milky-white surfaces. You can clearly see the logo, both when light is on and when it is off.

The logo on the back of the mouse pulses slowly in 3 different colors (Red / Green / Blue), where the scroll wheel only pulses in blue. I would have liked, that the scroll wheel was slightly more colored by the light, perhaps Sandberg should consider one more LED on the front of the wheel.

Lighting

My opinion:

Sandberg has created a great mouse that slides effortlessly across any surface. Personally, I think that Sandberg has come far from their older Blast model, which I've reviewed here.

This new mouse is much more subdued, and can be used in all environments and by all people, women and men.

However, the actual design for a special grip, I am not a fan of. But Sandberg is following what is happening and what is needed in the market so I am sure that Sandberg probably should sell a lot of this mouse. They have simultaneously released a different mouse for another type of grip that I will review later.

The only real criticism I have of the mouse is that the glossy surfaces which is a bit slippery. This makes it difficult to lift the mouse from the surface, which may well be a bit annoying.

A wireless connection for up to an entire 3 months is what you can expect on a full charge of this mouse. And should your mouse run out in the middle of a battle you just insert the micro USB cable, and then you can use it while your mouse is charging for another 3 months of wireless use. I think that's really cool.

The ability to use the mouse buttons as media buttons are also quite awesome, and not least the fact that you can turn off and turn on the lights.

With a price tag at 299 DKK retail price, Sandberg puts a very realistic price on the mouse. You get what you pay for here, and also a little extra. It all gives a nice rating of a shiny SILVER star.
