JBL Everest 300 Bluetooth Headset

It's time for a new review. I'm trying to keep it at one review a week. If you want to read the other things i put on the blog, you'll have to follow me on the social medias. I do write some news and other stuff, but they don't get announced on the front page. They alle get announced on Facebook and Twitter though.

Let's get to it. I've been given the opportunity to listen to JBL Everest 300. This is a really nice Bluetooth headset. The headset has, besides Bluetooth, some other features, which makes this headset particuluar awesome. Read on for more information.

JBL Logo

Who is JBL?

JBL is a well known brand in Hi-Fi products. They have made speakers as long as I can remember, and has now spread out in the market with mobile audio products.

I think that we should start with a look at a video from JBL. Enjoy this little introduction to the JBL Everest 300.

Specifications:

The specifications on the headset is pretty limited. But I can assure you that this headset is built in the well known JBL quality. Both in terms of quality and in terms of sound.

  • Connection: Bluetooth 4.1
  • Sensitivity: 100dB/1kHz, 1mW
  • Frequency: 10-22kHz
  • Driver: 40mm
  • Weight: 245g

Let's have a look at it then!

I think we should jump right into it, and see some pictures of this product.

The headset is wrapped in a pretty box, which has a box inside it. Everything seems as if it is in good quality, right from the start.

Box Inner box

After you have taken out the inner box, you open it, and the headset appears. It is packed neatly and are well and safe inside the box.

Taking the headset out, you have the accessories behind. There are various cables and manuals that we will look at in a moment.

Headset Accessories

In the box there are various guides and warnings etc. There is also a guide to an app called aha, as JBL recommend to their headset. It is a player for Internet radio.

The audio cable is designed for mobile devices, and there is a small in-line remote. The connectors are gold-plated, so you are sure of a good connection every time. When you connect the audio cable, you can not use the buttons on the headset itself. Amplifier and everything gets bypassed.

The USB cable is a nice silicone ribbon cable. The big USB plug is a bit special, as you can turn it as you like. This is the first time I see this type of connector. That's clever.

A closer look at the.

This headset can be folded for easier transport. It's super easy to have in your bag or the inside pocket of your jacket.

The ear cushions are in memory foam, and about 8 cm in height on the outside. The hole in the center is about 3,5 cm in height.

Folded Ear cushion

On the right ear-cup is all the connectors. Here you'll find the USB connector for charging and the audio connector. On the inside of the shell, you'll finds a LED, which is used for displaying the state of charging.

It is also on this ear-cup you'll find the microphone (the small hole) which should be with echo canceling. I'll test that later.

Connectors LED

Now to the operating buttons which sits on both ear cups.

On the right ear-cup, you turn on the headset and connects with Bluetooth. The power button pressed for 3 seconds, then switch on the headset. And the same goes for turning it off. If you have to pair the headset, you keep holding the power button when turning the headset on, then it is ready for pairing. There is audio feedback in the headset so that it tells you the different statuses. There is also a LED just above the button that shows whether there is connection or not, and if the battery is low.

The button under the power button is a ShareMe 2.0 button. That means that you can pair the headset with another Bluetooth audio device, such as a headset or a speaker. Then the headset sends the sound on to this device. Then you can listen to the same sound on more devices. This is the first time I've seen this, and think it's really smart.

On the left ear-cup is the volume buttons, and when you press in the middle, you answer or ends calls.

How does the headset feels to wear?

The cushion on the head is a little hard on this headset. I was a bit sore at first, because I'm used to a very soft cushion. But I'm pretty sure that if you use this headset often, you'll get used to it.

That being said, I have been listening to the headset for some hours, without having discomfort by the ear cushions. I wear glasses, and therefore easy to get discomfort when the headset is an on-ear headset like this. It was not a problem at all, which is super cool.

Front look Back look

The headset is nice looking and discreet in appearance. I love the soft expression and think that it fits perfectly into everyday life. The extension is in metal, which says little about the quality. And it is firm, but there is no notches. Now, when there are no notches, I do not understand why JBL chose to make lines on it. You can not fixate the headset on those lines.

How does it sound?

This headset is pure Hi-Fi, so I've only listened to music. Normally I would also play some games with a headset, but because this headset is not designed for gaming, and is wireless. I have chosen only to listen to music.

JBL know how to make great-sounding devices. This headset is very well-balanced, and there is a great harmony between the high and low notes.

When listening to the headset, you clearly sense the deep bass. The feel of the bass drum beat that punches in the background and  delicious vibrations from the bass. It's all in good harmony and well in the background of the high notes, which is clear in the foreground with all the details.

Medina:

I have listened to some music from Medina, which we probably all know. Her tracks is covering everything from quiet songs to party beats. Her voice tone is from medium to high.

Among other things, int he song 'Jeg Lever (Feat. Joey Moe)' you can hear a hi hat clearly, and a little hiss in the background, while the clear singing and the deep bass tones sets the rhythm. With many headsets would either get hi hat suppressed, or the bass would be virtually absent or overwhelming. It is not the case with this headset all tones have the right strength and everything is in harmony.

Lukas Graham:

Lukas has on the track '7 Years' chosen a kind record player sound. This means that during the whole song is a sound in the back, that sounds like small scratches in an LP record. Just as we remember it from the old days. These small scratches can be heard broadly throughout the song, and it does not matter whether he sings clearly, or whether it is silent sequences. The drums beats well into the background, while the song is very clear, and the small details clearly stand out from all the rest.

I think the music from this headset sounds mildly said, f*cking good. The only thing I miss is that the headset had been over-ear instead of on-ear. It is mostly because of noise from surroundings, and I think in general it is more comfortable to wear. Then there's the problem wirth the head cushion, which perhaps is just a bit on the hard side for me. But the sound quality is not debateable. It's just right for my ears.

There's a microphone in the headset.

That's right, and I have tested it. I have made calls to Skypes call test, which records and play back the recording afterwards.

Without background noise:

The call was fine and clear, I could easily hear what I said. It's not like a studio microphone, but it can be used if you have to.

With background noise:

I sense that there is no noise-reducing features of this headset. JBL doesen't write that it has. They do say, however, that there is echo reduction.

My general belief of the microphone in this headset is that it can be used. However, if you are in a place where there is much noise in the background. You should probably take the phone with the phone itself, as the noise immediately joins the conversation, and probably will be more a nuisance than on the positive side.

What's my oppinion?

I think this headset is great. It looks really good and it has a great sound. Not only that, it's really comfortable to wear, even when you consider it is an on-ear headset.

This is the first time I see a function like the ShareMe function. I think that's an awesome option that you can travel together, watch movies together on one mobile device, and then share the sound in two headsets. It's also cool that JBL has chosen NOT to limit it to only JBL headsets.

The headset can definitely be recommend, and I would actually give it 4 stars. I do this because the sound is top notch. The comfort of the head cushion and the microphone may lack a little, but I would never buy this kind of headset to have hourly long conversations on the mobile phone. No, here is the sound quality a priority.

The headset can according to JBL be acquired for around 1200 DKK, which is an ok price for a headset of this quality and with the features it has.
